The son of famed director S.D. Burman, R.D. brought the swinging rock 'n' roll spirit of the '60s into Hindi films. Burman had a gruff bass voice that occasionally made its way onto soundtracks. Burman frequently worked with the great lyrcist Gulzar. Burman was as adept at rock 'n' roll fun as he was at serious classical film scores.
