He was a soulful folk singer who hit his musical prime in the early '70s with songs like the melancholic "Time In A Bottle." The early death of Croce was one of popular music's most dire tragedies. At the young age of 30 his songwriting was prime. After graduating college, Croce worked as both a teacher and construction worker while playing local gigs. Croce performed with his wife Ingrid recording "Jim and Ingrid Croce" before he went solo. In 1985, Jim's widow, Ingrid, opened Croce's Restaurant & Jazz Bar in San Diego, as a tribute to her late husband.
