Diamond Head's 1981 debut, "Lightning to the Nations," is considered one of the best and most influential metal records ever. Unable to generate any interest from major labels, Diamond Head recorded and released their first album themselves. When the group sent copies of its first album to music critics, they flipped out when they heard it. The band was signed to MCA, which promptly ruined their subsequent records by trying to make the group more "radio-friendly."
